For US customs, the country of origin is generally where a product was manufactured, produced, or grown—not the country it was shipped from. If goods made in Myanmar pass through another country, that transit country usually does not become the origin. Origin matters because tariff measures, trade remedies, sanctions-related rules, marking requirements, and other import controls may apply based on the product’s origin. • Identify the product’s correct Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classification before reviewing country-specific measures.
• Trace where the goods and their key components were manufactured, produced, or grown, and document each material processing step.
• Check whether processing outside Myanmar qualifies as a substantial transformation under the applicable US origin rule; ask a customs broker or trade counsel when unclear.
• Obtain and retain supplier origin records, manufacturing documents, bills of materials, and production or shipping records that support the declared origin.
• Verify the current official measure, exemption, documentation, and marking requirements for the product’s classification and Myanmar origin before entry.
