For US customs, the country of origin is generally the country where a product was manufactured, produced, or grown—not the country it was shipped from. For tracking purposes, “UZ” is the country-code entry for Uzbekistan. A shipment routed through another country does not normally change its origin.

Origin matters because tariff measures, trade remedies, sanctions-related controls, quotas, marking rules, and other import requirements can depend on the origin of the goods. The key question is whether processing in another country substantially transforms the product. Simple actions such as packing, labeling, sorting, or minor assembly often do not change origin, but the result can depend on the product and the facts. What to check

• Confirm the actual manufacturing, production, or growing location for each product—not merely the exporter, seller, warehouse, or shipping route.
• Identify all manufacturing steps and materials by country, then assess whether processing in another country creates a new product or otherwise meets the applicable substantial-transformation rule.
• Review the product’s classification, such as its Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) heading, because origin rules and measures may vary by product.
• Keep bills of materials, supplier origin statements, production records, invoices, and transportation documents that support the claimed origin.
• Check the current official US measure and origin information for Uzbekistan (UZ), and ask a customs broker for a ruling or formal review when the facts are complex or disputed.
