Work out the import cost per unit before you price anything on it.

Live

Merchants search for a Shopify import fee at the point where a duty increase has already landed and the margin has already moved. The instinct is to add a flat amount across the catalog. The problem is that the cost is not flat: it follows the classification and the origin, so two products in the same collection can carry completely different import costs. Pricing on a guess overcharges half the catalog and undercharges the half that actually hurts.

Available on Shopify: this workflow is part of SkuWatch Tariff Recovery. The current app produces estimates, review states, recovery drafts, and finance CSVs; it does not change products, prices, orders, or checkout charges.

Search intent
Shopify merchants who want to add an import fee and need the real per-SKU cost, not a blanket percentage.
Workflow input
Each product's HTS code, country of origin, unit cost and monthly volume, from the catalog SkuWatch reads.
Workflow output
The estimated import cost per unit for each affected SKU, with the duty layers itemized and the official source behind each one.
The SkuWatch tariff calculator showing an estimated landed cost with the duty layers and CBP fees itemized separately.

What this covers

The cost is per SKU, which is why a flat fee is usually wrong

The number a merchant needs is not the rate in the news. It is the amount that a specific product, from a specific origin, actually costs to bring in — after the base duty, after whatever trade action applies on the entry date, and after CBP fees. That number is per SKU, and it is knowable.

Two products sitting next to each other in the same collection can differ by twenty points of duty because their classifications differ. A flat import fee spread across both is not a simplification; it is two pricing errors in opposite directions.

What SkuWatch does with it

It reads the catalog, works out which SKUs carry a supported import-cost estimate, and produces the per-unit figure with its evidence attached. It then prepares recovery drafts for review and manual setup; it does not change the store.

SkuWatch is not a customs broker, does not file or remit duty, and does not guarantee a classification or a recovered margin. It shows the cost with its source, and leaves the pricing decision with you.

Workflow

Getting from a headline to a per-unit number

Catalog facts, official tariff evidence, and estimates stay separated so unresolved inputs are visible before a decision.

01 / Classify

Get the code and the origin right first

An import cost that rests on a guessed HTS code is a guess. SkuWatch will not propose a recovery amount for a SKU whose classification is unconfirmed or low confidence.

02 / Cost

Build the number from its layers

Base duty, the trade actions in force on the entry date, and CBP fees, each itemized with its source. The total is what the goods actually cost to bring in, not a headline rate.

03 / Decide

Choose which SKUs carry it

Recovery is a decision per product. Absorb it where margin allows, price it where it does not, and leave the products the measure never touched alone.

Data freshness

Live app, source-linked tariff data

Per-unit import cost is estimated against the current published schedule, with each represented duty layer shown separately. Catalog estimates keep unresolved classification or origin facts out of totals.

Frequently asked questions

Is an import fee the same as a duty?

No. A duty is levied by a customs authority against an entry and paid by the importer. An import fee or import cost recovery is an amount you choose to add to your own price. See the duties versus surcharge explainer for the full distinction.

Can SkuWatch add the fee to my Shopify products?

No. The current app prepares estimates, recovery drafts, and finance CSVs for review, but it does not change Shopify products, prices, orders, or checkout charges.

How do I know the amount is right?

Every figure is built from a confirmed HTS code, a country of origin and a customs value, against the published schedule, with the source and the date it was verified attached. Where a fact is missing the amount is withheld rather than estimated.

What if my product mix spans several origins?

Then the cost differs per SKU, which is exactly the case a flat fee handles badly. The per-SKU estimate is the point.
